Why Harp Miles?
New site, so let's start with the name.
"Harp" is a family nickname I've had forever. "Miles" is what I actually do: mostly on trail, sometimes on road, and occasionally by bike or paddle when my legs need a break from themselves.
Say it out loud and you get the rest of it. Hard miles.
Hard miles is a phrase every endurance athlete already knows. I just gave it my name.
What I've been doing
I've been quietly doing this for years without ever posting about it. Trail running and ultras up to 250 miles, some road marathons mixed in, and I'm training for one right now.
Why start writing about it
I want to document it properly: the training, the racing, and the parts that don't usually make the highlight reel. People who've seen my race plans keep asking about the planning side more than the running, so that will be a big part of what I write about.
Long term, this is building toward more serious writing about the sport, and eventually toward directing a race of my own.
For now, I'm just logging the miles. Glad to have you here.
